The South Equatorial Current (SEC), strongly influences the whole Eastern coast of Africa. The SEC flows westward, just south of the equator until it reaches the coast of Tanzania. There it divides, one part going south into the Mozambique channel to form the Agulhas current, the other flowing northward to join the South Equatorial Counter Current (SECC). The diving spots are selected according to criteria determined by the Expedition Leader for the video shots. Many of them are unexplored, or even hardly known, due to their remote location or difficulty of access. Visibility usualy is about 30 meters, allowing to fully admire the wonderful walls and shallows surrounding the islands and coral reefs. The coastal waters of Tanzania and Kenya are very deep and famous for their large diversity of marine fauna. Encounters with Eagle and Manta rays, Green turtles, schools of Barracudas, Hammer sharks, Tuna fishes are frequent in these waters. The marine flora is of an amazing diversity too, with a large range of fine corals and sponges. Water temperature is about 25 to 28°C during the winter months (in July and August).
